Welcome to the Spectrum of Health podcast. I’m your host, Dr. Christine Schaffner, and today we’re going to be talking all about the Relax Sauna and how it’s the finest in energy medicine. I personally invited Philip Wilson to be on the podcast.

I get a lot of questions about saunas and people are often confused on what level of infrared energy they need to purchase. You know, is the portable just as good as the more expensive wooden saunas? And there’s really robust, amazing sauna community out there. But I decided to get a Relax Sauna in my office.

We are using it daily and loving it and it has a lot of clinical pearls and uses and some uniqueness that I thought it would be really fun, especially if you’re shopping for a sauna. So I hope that this is informational and educational and that you enjoy. So have a good listen and thank you for listening to the podcast.

So welcome, Phil. I’m really excited to learn from you today and share this technology with our community. And what’s unique about the Relax far-infrared sauna is that it’s a far-infrared sauna.

It’s not just an infrared sauna because we are far-infrared light beams. Most people don’t know that. Water is a far-infrared molecule and so it took the Relax Sauna company 10 years from 1987 to 1997 to find a way to give you only the frequency, the far-infrared frequency of 7 to 14 microns, which resonates with the water molecules and causes it to vibrate.

Yeah, that’s a great distinction because we use this word infrared sauna all the time. So why don’t you just lay that out for people because people might not have caught that. So we have near, middle, far infrared in this infrared spectrum, which also translates to a nanometer of wavelength, right? And so it’s also invisible energy.

We don’t often see that with the naked eye infrared, but we can feel it with our bodies. And so can you just, yeah, take it from there because I want people to really get what you’re saying here. Yeah, well, about seven years ago, there was a big to-do about near-infrared saunas and Dr. Sherry Roger wrote a book about far-infrared saunas called Detoxify or Die and it’s like a classic.

It came out around 2001 and it spawned an industry about the far-infrared saunas. Now in 2017, they started saying, well, near-infrared does all the things that Dr. Sherry Roger said far-infrared does. And then they said far-infrared doesn’t.

I said, what the heck? What’s going on, you know? And so, you know, and when they referred people to the research, it referred to near-infrared lasers, had nothing to do with their light bulbs. And the Relax Sauna company donated a far-infrared table lamp in 2004 and they did research on it and it was presented at the Biophotonic Conference in Taiwan in 2004, pointing out and showing and proving that the Relax Sauna far-infrared lamp of 100, well, at that time was 150 watts, now it’s 200 watts, was far more significant in penetrating and getting rid of, helping with circulation than a near-infrared light bulb produced by Philips. This was in 2004 and presented.

So that’s the only research I know. But we sent to Harvard-MIT Department of Health and Technology Laboratories about six months ago, we sent them a Relax Sauna, we sent them a $1,300 portable sauna, pretend, you know, that they say they’re the best. And we sent them a $300 Amazon sauna.

And they did research and the research came out and said that the energy of the Relax Sauna was all between 7 and 14 microns of far-infrared energy. Now, water is 8 microns and the human body of all mammals, birds, and humans is 9.4 microns. So that’s the special frequency of light, we call it the magic of 7 to 14 micron frequency.

And there’s a book from Japan written by Dr. Toshika Yamasaki, called The Science of Far-Infrared Therapy. And she points out that water clusters and traps encapsulated poisonous gases, and that the upon application of 7 to 14 micron frequency, it causes the water molecules to vibrate, weakens the ionic bonds in the water molecule with the hydrogen and the oxygen, and helps release the encapsulated poisonous gases and heavy metals from the body. Only the 7 to 14 micron range does that.

Now, we know from experience, I mean, you can go to Amazon and see that everyone’s raving about their sauna, and they’re all good. The sweat lodges, the saunas, the Finnish saunas, there’s research on all the benefits of Finnish saunas over a 20-year study, even for pregnant women, Finnish saunas are great, you know. So there’s a lot of myths, you know, out there.

And again, this is what I’ve been focusing on all my life with the foundation of mathematics background. I studied mathematics, have an honors degree in math, four years, five years of graduate school, studying the history and philosophy and the foundations of it. And the world isn’t very logical, but that’s okay.

I have to honor that. But it’s the 7 to 14 micron frequency that does the magic. And we sent the Relax Sauna a year ago to Polytechnic University, and for 60 minutes, they tested the frequency coming out of the Relax Sauna generators.

It was all between 7 and 14 microns. Now, the Relax Sauna company was founded by trying to find a frequency of energy that was similar to what the energy around hot springs in southern Japan where people were feeling. Now, after they figured out how to do that, it turned out it was between 7 and 14 microns.

And they researched this from 1987 to 1997. And they came up with semiconductor chips that were able to do the filtering. And Bruce Lipton talked about the membrane is the brain of the cell.

And the membrane is a semiconductor, which allows in, it conducts sometimes, it doesn’t conduct depending upon what it needs. So the body accepts certain nutrients of the cell, and then it allows in what it wants and not what it doesn’t want. So at any rate, we use semiconductor chips.

During COVID, there was a problem because Taiwan makes 94% of the world’s semiconductor chips, so there’s a problem with cars. But this is made in Taiwan, not China. And there’s so many people out there.

As a matter of fact, the person who introduced me to you was of the belief that portable saunas couldn’t do certain things that wooden saunas could do. And everyone was told this. And then we met him at a show.

Dr. Paul Anderson had a conference. And Dr. Paul Anderson had bought four saunas for me and not only uses it before IV therapy, but they were using it during IV therapy, increasing the body temperature 4 degrees, 4.2 degrees. So he sent us a video saying they can get the temperature of the body, which is really hard to believe for a sauna, to 101.5, 101.9 all the time.

Wow. Yeah. And talk about that, because I think there’s, I mean, probably not for this audience, but there’s still a lot of misconceptions about fever.

There’s a lot of suppression and palliation and not the acknowledgement, either reduction of a fever or letting a fever go naturally is one of a profound healing tool for ourselves. We have a hero, I believe, in Hippocrates. Yes.

Yes. Hippocrates had a famous quote, above all do no harm, but he had a couple other quotes. And one of them was, find me a way to create fever and sweat, and I will cure any disease.

Yeah. That’s profound. Yes.

Yeah. Yeah. It’s true.

It holds up. I mean, in 2024, that is, that is true. They had a, you know, basically the fact that you can do this, you can create the body temperature, that’s profound, but they have a hospital.

That’s what I was starting to say in Germany called St. George Hospital, where they go and they increase the body to 104, 105, and it kills everything except the body. And they have sophisticated equipment that doesn’t let the body to get up to 107, 108. Otherwise the body dies and defeats the whole purpose.

Yes. Yes. Yeah.

Yeah. What if people don’t want to go there and do that? Like, is this another way to achieve similar results? Or do you feel like you have to get the body to that high of a temperature? They can go to people like you and other, because you don’t, you know, by, by increasing the body daily, three degrees, and people have tested the Relax Sauna. Many people have told me in 25 minutes, you can create, you know, a 3.2 degree change like Dr. Anderson.

And there’s an article on reddit.com where the guy tested the Relax Sauna and two Amazon saunas. Both Amazon saunas increased body temperature a half a degree only 25 minutes, the $200 one and the $500 one. And then he said, okay, I’ll get the Relax Sauna.

And it was body temperature 3.2 degrees. But more importantly, when he studied, you know, the, the research on, on infrared saunas, he found out that the, they increased heart rate variability a lot. And the Amazon saunas totally failed to do that.

Oh, interesting. Why do you think that is? Well, it’s because of the exact frequency of the far infrared light that is required to vibrate the water molecule, because we tested the, the Amazon sauna at Harvard, and it came back 0.95 microns to 1.3 microns, 100% near infrared. And all the Amazon talk is, talks about the benefit of far infrared energy and far infrared saunas and their research.

And yet they have 0% far infrared ray. And even the $1,300 portable sauna, the frequency of the vibration was 1.2 to 6 microns, none in the magical frequency, but 8% far infrared ray, 37% mid and 55% near. And we’re just starting to educate people about, about this research.

And now, you know, and also the, the Harvard study, the Harvard-MIT study also pointed out that the ability of the Relax Sauna to penetrate the intensity of the penetration absorption into the body was three and a half times that of the $1,300 portable sauna and four and a half times that of the $300 Amazon sauna. So the $1,300 sauna was a little bit better than the Amazon sauna. And they’re also advertised as low EMF.

And in a sense that’s true, but we had one 10th the EMF they had, even though they had one 15th the EMF of the Amazon sauna. But, but, you know, a lot of people have told me that the cell phone is, is a hundred times more dangerous than the EMF of any household appliance. Hi, everyone.

And that’s where when people start talking about EMF and I agree that it’s a huge impact on people’s health and I give people lots of strategies, but it’s like, what are we doing with our phones all day long? That’s, you know, what we control. And, you know, obviously we don’t want to keep them on our body or near our head and use them sparingly during the day. So I was just thinking, Phil, while you were talking about like the therapeutic benefits.

So I have a lot of patients who have chronic infections and they have low body temperature. They will often be hypothyroid. They’re at like usually in the 97s, not the, you know, as they’re like normal temperature.

What have you seen, you know, for like those folks, if you have any anecdotes or things to share, obviously we’ll be getting probably the normal temperature, but does that regulate temperature over time or any, any clinical pearls? I’m just curious. Well, I, we’ve been going to these conferences since 2001. I’ve been to over 500, you know, functional medicine and naturopathic doctor and medical, integrative medical doctor conferences for the last 20 some years.

And one lecture said that if you raise body temperature, if you’re, if you have low thyroid, if you raise body temperature, one degree, you can increase absorption of nutrients, 20%, which is, which is profound. And that’s what you want to do now, increasing body temperature. You can probably increase your body temperature one degree in five to seven minutes, 10 at the most in the Relax Sauna with your clothes on without sweating.

And not only will you feel loved and hugged by your loving grandma, but you’ll get rid of 50% to a hundred percent of your pain almost every time. Yeah. Tell us about the pain relief.

Well, you know, what’s going on there and, and why do you have, why do you get to wear your clothes versus not wearing your clothes like other saunas? Just maybe. It’s because, you know, when you go out into the hot sun on a hot day or a cold day and you close your eyes, you can feel that deep penetrating warmth in your body. Oh my God.

It’s so good. It goes to your clothes. If you don’t believe it goes to your clothes, go out into the sun.

And Bill Pollack says that that same far infrared light from the sun, he wrote the book, The Fourth Phase of Water and said, far infrared light increases the exclusion zone water. But he says it gives the plants the power to move and to bend by again, vibrating and resonating with water molecules in plants. Now, so when you increase body temperature, one degree, you’re going to increase the nutrients.

And in general, so many people with low body temperature cumulatively will find that they’re going to be a whole lot healthier in three days and three weeks and three years. And in 20 years, we only know because we’ve only been doing it for 21 years. Yeah.

I love it. So what about the people who don’t sweat? You know, the people who come in really sick and their autonomic nervous system is very fragile and they’re not sweating. Can they tolerate, they relax on it? Yes.

Now, Dr. Roger Billika, he owns Trilight Clinic in Fort Collins, Colorado, I think. He says that when his patients finally do start sweating, there’s a marked difference in their healing journey. I know that my ex-wife was at a conference, a medical conference, and this one lady took her 51 minutes to start sweating.

And as soon as she starts sweating, we had four doctors with their credit cards ready to order the sauna. Yeah. I was also at a dental conference, a biological dentist conference.

One lady had not sweated in 10 years, the other in 20 years. And I got them both to sweat in 20 minutes. So that’s because it’s the frequency of light coming out of the Relax sauna that distinguishes itself from any other sauna.

We say, experience the difference, feel the momentum, because the Relax sauna is an upgrade to an $8,000 wooden sauna. We like to say the Relax sauna is a $20,000 sauna selling right now for $1,500 online. I think the price has gone up to $1,700 beginning of the year.

We haven’t raised the price in three years. So that’s a good reason to buy it now this year in 2024. But increasing heart rate variability is also something that the Relax sauna excels in, because when the guy who did the Reddit study, when he did the, and found out the Relax sauna increased body temperature 3.2 degrees instead of 0.5 degrees, he also noticed that the Relax sauna, in terms of increasing heart rate variability, HRV known as, blew away the research on what the wooden and barn pit saunas could do.

So we’re starting to do our research and answer all the questions. We didn’t have enough money. We started on a shoestring.

Yeah. So we couldn’t afford to do a little research to educate people. Yeah.

No, that’s amazing. Yeah. Growing a company.

I understand that. Yeah. But yeah, that’s great that you’re spending the time and energy to look, right? And see the differences.

What about detoxification? So we know we have some really great studies out of Finland and Scandinavia about longevity and reduction of cardiovascular disease and cognitive decline and dementia with frequency of sauna. But you’ve been around this a long time. So what do you think is happening with the detoxification piece? Well, about 15 years ago, a good friend of mine said, you know, this gets rid of depression.

And again, it’s the exactness of the frequency that gets the Relax sauna to excel. But here’s something interesting that I don’t know if you know, but in that Japanese book on the science of far-infrared therapy, she says that far-infrared energy antidotes sunburn and EMF. So I have put half a dozen people in the Relax sauna at conferences with a sunburn pain of about a seven.

And that’s the last thing you’d think you would want to do, get into the Relax sauna behind me to get in it when you have a sunburn. But all those people, their pain totally gone in five to seven minutes. And in terms of the EMF, antidoting EMF, I put a musician in about 15 years ago.

He said, I can sense the EMF, but it is not affecting me whatsoever. And further, I’ve got a friend in Oklahoma who’s been using the Relax sauna for 10 years and is very sensitive to EMF. And he’s got about 12 EMF devices that he’s tested.

He still has one or two of them. He says the Relax sauna radiator works better bar none than any of the EMF protection devices. And who would have thought? You know, I think Jerry’s done some studies about EMF affecting, you know, the exclusion zone water, like, you know, interrupting that process.

And so this is, you know, mitigating the stress and probably restoring those exclusion zones, I’m thinking. What about like, mercury and aluminum and glyphosate and atrazine? Like, how do you think about that when you think about the Relax sauna? Well, in 2007, we were at the ACAM conference and Doris Rapp was talking to Karen Russell. And Karen says, I’ve been trying to, you know, for a year, I’ve been trying to get a sauna.

I just don’t know which one to get. And she says, well, go see Phil. And she bought the Relax sauna from us.

And two months later, she’s written a letter to us saying for the last two and a half years, my mercury and lead have been off the charts in my blood reports. And now that they’re, there’s no, they came back normal for the first time. First of all, I lost 65% of my cellulite and my skin looks radiant, beautiful, and it’s never looked so pretty before.

And she lost weight, but I think she was trying some diet products too. So it wasn’t just the Relax sauna that did it. What do you think about cellulite? I mean, when I think about cellulite, obviously there’s some structural changes in the connective tissue and lymphatics and, you know, many probably factors there, but what, how do you think the Relax sauna is getting rid of the cellulite? Well, you know how a washing machine works? I use one.

Yeah. Good, good. You have solid clothes and you have water.

And I’m going to tell you that that water is going to saturate those clothes and cleanse every fiber. And you’re going to say, no way. I’m going to say, well, the invisible light is going to cleanse, is going to saturate your body and cleanse every cell of the body.

So when you get the toxins out of the body, the nutrients that aren’t good for your body out, you’re going to cleanse the cells and therefore you’re not going to have the cellulite and you’re not going to have the toxins and the body is going to be purified. Purify is one of my favorite words. My name starts with a P and so does purify.

So I’m a purifist. But purification is like, I mean, that’s, that’s how I feel when I get into the Relax sauna almost every morning for 20 minutes. And sometimes I do a double dose and on spa day for Phil, I do a triple dose.

Oh, wow. Yeah. Do you think 20 minutes is just what you need? I mean, do you think 20 minutes is enough? 20 minutes does the trick.

20 minutes in the Relax sauna is like an hour in any $8,000 wooden infrared sauna. Okay. Because it takes 20 seconds to preheat, not 10, 20, 30 minutes.

Sometimes when you’ve had one of the wooden saunas for a while, it takes 45 minutes, people say, and they get the Relax sauna as an upgrade, which is interesting because we’ve sold a hundred, maybe a thousand saunas to people with five to $8,000 wooden saunas who get tired of waiting 30, 40 minutes for their saunas to heat up. Yeah, that is frustrating. We have a Relax sauna at my clinic in Seattle, and we actually love to put people in and again, fully clothed for about five to 10 minutes, not even probably for an IV therapy.

So their veins are kind of to the surface and easier for our IV doc to, you know, find them. And can you maybe share about the vascular system and how that’s doing what it’s doing? You’d be surprised how many doctors have told us they use the Relax sauna when they can’t get the vein and they can always get the vein after putting them in for just five minutes. Yeah.

Nice. Yeah. Is it just the, again, the seven to 14 microns that is affecting blood or the kind of the juiciness of the vein to come to the surface? Well, yeah, that that’s, you know, again the seven to 14 microns.

See, you know, it’s, it’s interesting if you, if you go to any saunas website and you say, well, how much of your frequency actually is far-infrared Ray and what is the range? No one talks about it. And there is a, there is a detox specialist in Las Vegas who she did an interview with me about a year ago. And she said, I had that $1,300 portable sauna.

I had an eight dose blanket and they left me de-energized. And I gave them away after I got the Relax sauna. The Relax sauna left me revitalized.

And, and she said that all saunas are different. See, you know, when you get a vitamin C or vitamin B supplement, you say, well, how many milligrams of vitamin B, B12 and all that. But people never even think they think all saunas are alike.

They think they all have the same dose. Well, the Relax sauna number one has 1400 Watts, not 900 Watts, not a thousand Watts. And when the Relax sauna generator is on, it’s got a self, it’s got uses a semiconductor chip.

So the temperature is self-controlled. And so it’s always generating the far-infrared energy. Now I’m told, I’m not sure if it’s true, but when a sauna, when a farm, when an infrared sauna reaches a certain temperature and it quits generating the heat and the energy, it quits generating the, the infrared energy.

And also you, you, you, you, if you sit in front of a window because cats lie in the sun, not in the shade, you sit in front of a window, you’re not getting the farm fed in front of that body. But see the Relax sauna really is a $20,000 sauna, but we, we sort of cheat by using a tent that acts as a mirror. So, so we mirror the light to therefore you’re getting an even distribution of the, of the, I’ll call it healing of the farm, but loving light.

I call it loving light because it really does. You do feel like you’re being hugged by your loving grandma. And if your grandma wasn’t so loving the grant, the grandma, she always wished you had.

Yeah. It does feel like you you’re basking in divine love. It feels pretty nice.

Is there ever a time where it’s better, especially if you’re wanting to detoxify to not wear your clothes in it, or is it just not? If you’re gonna sweat, no one likes taking a wet t-shirt off. So I always go in with no clothes on, or some people, you know, will go in with, with underwear or a bathing suit or a gym clothes. But in the privacy of my home, I put a towel on the chair.

You can see the two towels. Well, you can see one of the towels, but underneath that is a folded towel. And if I didn’t put that folded towel on the chair, the chair would get wet.

Okay. So I always, and some people, I don’t, I sit in the half lotus position on the chair because I can. I always could actually, I couldn’t when I was in my teens, but it took me a year to work into that when I was 21, 22.

But some people will put a hand towel in between the two radiators. And most people put their feet in between the two radiators on the ground, or some people, if you’re, if you’re a child or a short woman, or even a short man, you can put your, your feet on the, on top of the radiators or the pedestal. So how, how young of a child to get in the sauna, are you thinking? Well, I got pictures of, of one-year-olds and their moms with a head sticking out.

I got small dogs head sticking out too, but yeah, it’s, but we, we go to all the autism conferences or we’ve been to about a couple dozen of them. And a lot of kids, it really gets rid of their anxiety. I know my, my step-grandchildren, they were six, 10, 11.

They would go in and, and, and they would, at the point when they just started to sweat, then they would get out. That’s how usually kids are. If you’re a teenager, like when I got into saunas when I was 16, oh my gosh, I don’t think anything has ever felt that good.

You know? I mean, I just love sweating and feeling invigorated. So, you know, when you become an athlete or a, or a teen, then you go 20 minutes. And if you feel like you’re a super athlete, you can go 30 minutes.

But I found a secret to do that. There was extra eight minutes. How does that, how do you do that? You unzip the zipper.

Our sophisticated digital temperature control device, digital, because you use your hand to unzip the zipper. And, and because see, again, a lot of people think that the heat inside the sauna has something to do with the therapy. And that’s not really true.

It’s the light resonating. Even the Mayo Clinic has said that their heart patients should never go into a finished sauna and never go into a hot tub. But the far-infrared saunas are very therapeutic.

And the reason that they shouldn’t go into a finished sauna or a hot tub is the heart has to race to find an equilibrium between the inside and the outside temperature. But when you raise, in a far-infrared sauna, when you raise the body temperature just a couple degrees, then, then the outside temperature does not affect you. And even MS patients, they’re afraid to go in.

And how selling, because it’s, it’s not the heat that’s therapeutic, it’s the light created by the water molecules vibrating. So the whole purpose, when I first started using and selling the Relax Sauna in 2002, it’s, it’s to get the water molecules to vibrate. You’re sending off something that resonates with the water.

So it’s all about the water. And, and this will, you know, like we want pure water. This, this unclumps the water molecule, the structures, the water, far-infrared energy structures, the water.

It’s amazing. And of course I drink about 8 to 12 ounces of water when I go in. Then after 20 minutes, I get out, maybe drink another 8 to 12 ounces.

And if I’m feeling pretty good, I’ll, I’ll go in and do another 20 minutes. And then spa day for Phil, I’ll repeat it one more time. And I feel like I’ve been at the spa for nine hours.

Yeah. No, it’s yeah. It sounds, I mean, it’s such a elegant solution in the sauna world, again, without all the obstacles to get in and, you know, getting this healing frequency.

Do we get this in nature? I mean, in the sun, right? I mean, I love lying out in the sun and I live in Vegas and I’ll go out in the sun and lay out in the sun for half an hour. And it, I just love it. It just invigorates me.

There’s something very therapeutic. As a matter of fact, the first time I used to go to El, to Anaheim every March for a conference when I, when I owned my health food store and I still own it. But one, one winter was so cold though.

I, I drove to Palm Springs to get my son. Once I started using the relax sauna, I wasn’t craving lying in the sun. So even though the ultraviolet gives you vitamin D, there’s something that the, that far-infrared gives you very, very important frequency of energy that doesn’t make you crave the sunlight I was in the past.

Interesting. No, I, I’m really intrigued in everything that you’ve shared. There are so many, you know, clinical pearls and so many kind of areas of interest for my community.

What, what happened? We talked about film. Is there any other application? We, we, we put two vaccine injured nurses in and they cried both of them because they felt relief for, they felt feeling in the fingers for the first time in two years. And the lady felt persiculation in her leg for the first time in two years.

We also had a two months ago, I was at a conference in Detroit and the lady had had a flu vaccine 13 years ago. And her, she had had shooting pain in her feet and then it was complicated more, you know, by a COVID vaccine, but basically she’s out of her wheelchair now. And the 13 years of shooting pain in her feet were gone in seven to 10 minutes.

And I, I put dozens of people in who have reported the pain for six months. One guy, he had done all this exercise and he couldn’t move his hand. And after 15 minutes, he was able to move his hand.

One person who has sciatica pain, he went in actually for 15 minutes and sweated a little bit. And he had had constant sciatica pain for six and a half weeks, pain of about seven, eight gone in 15 minutes. So I have seen like 30,000 minor or major miracle of the 150,000 people I’ve put in the sauna.

Yeah. You’ve clocked a lot of hours, you know, so I, I know with the observing and whatever, how rewarding, you know, it is. Observe is a really special word.

Experience. So many times I go to shows and people who bought a wooden sauna for $8,000 sometimes can get a little arrogant and you can’t get them into the sauna. And I said, no, this is not a sauna.
